Greetings on 10th Night — Dawn — Day of Christmas.
In the Celtic cycle — today is a celebration of the Oak and Evergreen — the two sacred trees. The original sacred tree was the Oak. Once the Oak forests of Europe were decimated, then the Evergreen became a second Sacred Tree. The two trees share a truth — both trees draw lightning. And the Celts honored this reality — telling the story that they were able to harness fire by cutting a burning limb from these sacred trees.
For Christians today is the Feast of Genevieve, patron of Paris. She is often shown with a loaf of bread, representing her generosity toward those in need. This 5th Century woman was known for her tireless works for the poor and needy, and is said to have saved Paris by diverting the invading Germanic tribes away from the city.
10th Day once again reflects our need for generosity as a quality that engenders birth and the nutrients for our growth. Generosity stands like a stately old Oak that brings us the gift of fire. And Genevieve is the image of an inner fire who provides for others’ essential needs.
Who or what is a Genevieve in your life? Celebrate them. And be inspired this day to act in like manner.
Blessed and Holy 10th Day of Christmas — a day that reminds us to be a Sacred Tree and a bringer of fire (igniting passion, inspiration and generosity) for others.
I can’t wait to bring you 11th Day — it is a fav. And you are gonna love it.
