Greetings on 9th Night — Dawn — Day of Christmas.
The Christmas Season continues for 4 more days — until sunset of 06 January.
In the Celtic Winter Solstice cycle — 9th Day celebrates the gift of snow. Depending on where you live, this could equally be a day to mark the essential nature of sand or every grain of earth. The day celebrates that each particle of the cosmos is unique — while each is comprised of the very same elements. In the celebration of snow and sand and earth — we mark our uniqueness and our commonality.
In the Christian cycle of Christmas, today is the Feast of Soul Brothers — Basil the Great & Gregory of Nazianzen. Gregory writes of his friendship with Basil: “Such was the prelude to our friendship, the kindling of that flame that was to bind us together. In this way we began to feel affection for each other. When, in the course of time, we acknowledged our friendship and recognized that our ambition was a life of true wisdom, we became everything to each other: we shared the same lodging, the same table, the same desires the same goal. Our love for each other grew daily warmer and deeper … We seemed to be two bodies with a single spirit. Though we cannot believe those who claim that everything is contained in everything, yet you must believe that in our case each of us was in the other and with the other.”
On this day — let us celebrate our uniqueness and our common-ness. May the friendship of Basil and Gregory be an inspiration to a union with each and all — and gratitude for deep intimacies.
Blessed Holy Day of Intimacy and 9th Day of Christmas.
